A Mid-South high school student, Aylen Mercado, is being recognized nationally for her artistic ability. Aylen Mercado is one of the recipients of the Scholastic Arts 2015 Portfolio Gold Medal Award. For winning the award, Mercado gets a $10,000 scholarship. She is in good company, too. Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, and Robert Redford are just a few of the famous people who won this award since it started in 1923.
